New Competition on NewsTalk

COMPETITION DEADLINE EXTENDED

On the next broadcast of "The Legal Column" (Saturday 19th June) we will announce the ultimate "Legal Anorak" competition. The Anorak slot on the Legal Column is a serious but light hearted look at the minutiae of the law. Examples of previous "anorak" items include "the origins of the term 'Red Tape'", The legal definition of a "bicycle", the origins of the judicial address "My Lord", "The Bar" and "The Sheriff" and Stories from the American Bar. To read these examples, please look at those already posted on the NewsTalk pages on this website.

What we want to do is throw open "The Legal Anorak Moment" to all NewsTalk listeners. On 19th June we will invite entries from listeners to email or post (or texts if short to 53106 for 30cent) their entries to an address to be announced live on air on Saturday 17th July 2010. The winner (to be chosen by the producer of the programme) will win the prize of €100.00 sponsored by RadioSolicitor.ie

Entries may include complex wording of legal definitions, the origins of a legal phrase or even an explanation of a legal process worded as Sir Humphry Appleby in "Yes, Prime Minister" might deliver. Equally it can include stories from foreign countries or even from ancient Irish folklone. It's* easy. Please start writing now. BUT MAXIMUM of 100 words please.

* Note the apostrophe correctly used in the word "it's". Journalist Con Houlihan once said "a person who can misplace an apostrophe is capable of anything!" Now you have the idea. We look forward to receiving your entry.
