Harassment at work over bad back

I hurt my back outside of work and the company keeps harassing me sending me to different doctors. What can I do?

This is a Health and Safety issue that the company is concerned about.  It probably also has to do with this listener’s sickness record.

A company owes a duty to its employees to provide a safe system of work and anyone who is carrying an injury or is recovering from one is entitled to a special duty of care to ensure that they are not put to any work that would cause the injury to be made worse.

In order to do this the company has to be medically advised by doctors and the way in which the medical profession operate is that there would probably be a company doctor appointed to examine the employee who will see an orthopaedic problem and then will be referred on to an orthopaedic surgeon who will probably recommend in their report that a physiotherapy assessment be made.  The Therapist in turn will probably recommend that an occupational injury specialist be consulted to make recommendations about this listener’s work practice within the company. I know this sounds very complicated but it's the way the medical profession operate and the company has no say in the process.

I don’t think that the company is harassing this listener – it seems that the law will require them to take these steps in order to keep the employee safe from further injury and the employee is obliged to go along with this.
