Barking dogs at 6am

The dogs bark loudly at 6am. What can I do to stop them legally? Ann, Athlone.

Hi Ann.  Why are they barking at 6am - is something happening like the milk is delivered or someone in the house gets up at that time every morning? One way or the other this can be very troublesome but my advice firstly is to knock on your neighbour's door and tell them that their dogs are barking at 6am.  If they refuse to do anything about it you can call the Gardai.  You can also call the Environmental Protection Agency and complain about noise pollution.  You can also contact the Environmental Department of the County Council and make a formal complaint to them.  You can also go to your local District Court office and swear out a complaint in which case a summons will be served on the neighbour and you will have to go to Court or alternatively you can go to your solicitor and ask him or her to look for a court order against them preventing this happening.

You have many options available.
