Cost of each visit to solicitor

The one problem with asking your Solicitor to explain something for you is that he will charge you a hundred quid for the privilege. Please comment. David, Ennis.

Hi David.  It all depends on what sort of agreement regarding fees you have with your Solicitor.  If you have agreed a fixed cost tariff in a property sale or purchase then maybe routine advice is covered by the agreed tariff.  Equally, if you have agreed a “no win, no fee” arrangement in a civil litigation case (accident, breach of contract, etc.) then this may also be covered – at least for payment at the end when there is a result.

I suspect what David in Ennis has come up against is that there is a complicated issue being dealt with by his Solicitor which requires repeated consultations.  This would be a bit like a doctor, that if you had to go back repeatedly for treatment you would pay anything from €60 to €150 for reviews and treatment sessions.  It can be the same with a legal case.

I would advise you David to go back to your solicitor and discuss a budget for further consultations.
