Can't get visa to Europe

I am non EU, was working for 7 years in Ireland, was made redundant recently, got long term residency and now I can't get any visa to Europe as I'm on the social welfare, even I provide all requested doc by embassy: booking, flight tickets, money on account. I thought its one of human right - freedom of movement. Please tell me is there any help in getting through it. Thanks

Hi Listener,

this has come up before on the Legal Column and unfortunately it is not a matter of Irish law – it is a matter of the recognition of passports between two other countries.  For example, if you are Nigerian and you want to travel from Ireland to Germany it depends on the treaty arrangements which Germany and Nigeria have regarding recognition of each others passports.

Obviously you have investigated the visa arrangements and you know you won’t get one.  But there is nothing you can do with the Irish authorities except ask them to hurry up your naturalisation process if you are already an applicant.

The issues raised in the answer to this NewsTalk listener's question are dealt with in a general way as can only be the case on live radio.
