Solicitor-v-OnLine Divorce Service

Listener Comment "DIY Divorce Bullshit. I had an excellent experience with a DIY service. Ä650...6 weeks...no problems...and very easy. Heís talking from self interest!!"

Iím glad that this Listener had an excellent experience......so far and Iím happy to be an independent commentator about divorce services as having practiced Family Law exclusively for 5 years some time back I donít any longer so I have no self interest in the differences between the two.

Sometimes Separation and Divorce agreements can be reopened by the courts and indeed some issues that should be settled at the time of divorce are not such as pension adjustment orders, Consents under the Family Home Protection Act (for easy purchase/sale of future property) etc. Many online divorce websites only provide a form filling service along with general guidance as to the law. They are un-regulated and do not provide representation in court.

People who buy important products and services on line such as prescription medicines should be aware that they donít know what they are getting and have no comeback if things go wrong. Itís the same here. Using an experienced family law solicitor to handle a divorce will give tailored specific advice AND representation in court for a client. And the service is fully regulated. Some solicitors will charge Ä999.00 for an uncontested divorce.

Incidentally, if itís the form filling part a separated person needs they can get free guidance from the County Registrar in the local Circuit Court. www.courts.ie
